Mangrove Center
An international hub for sustainable mangrove management
When it comes to soil carbon, mangroves are nature’s secret treasure. Such ‘blue carbon’ stores could help many countries meet their climate commitments – if they halt the conversion of mangroves to shrimp farms, industrial uses or residential developments. The good news is that many degraded mangroves can be restored, given time.
As awareness grows of both the value and vulnerability of mangrove ecosystems, so do initiatives to save and rehabilitate them. The World Mangrove Center aims to catalyse such efforts by connecting, coordinating and fostering collaboration among stakeholders at all levels and sectors, and across nations.
